These traditional handmade Windsor chairs are handcrafted of solid oak, maple and poplar.  They have hand turned legs, stretchers and arm posts, steam bent back bows, and hand shaped spindles, with traditional wedged joinery throughout. The distressed finish has a red milk paint layer under a black top coat.  Whether you need a single chair or a set to go with a handmade dining room or kitchen table, we make various Windsor chair styles in a variety of different finish options.  Watch our Windsor Chair video

Finish Options:

Various finishing options are available. A painted or stained surface consists of a milk paint or stain color of your liking followed by an oil varnish top coat. A distressed paint finish starts with a coat of stain to add color and age to the wood, followed by multiple coats of milk paint. We then distress and rub through the finish, this simulates wear and gives the chair an aged, antique look. Another option is to use a different color milk paint on the the first coat than the top coat. This effect, when distressed , simulates multiple paint layers added over years of use. An oil varnish completes the finish giving the chair the desired sheen.

Contact us if you have any more questions and for a milk paint color chart.

The traditional Milk Paint we use is made today with the same basic ingredients used for hundreds of years, milk protein, lime and earth pigments. The look and feel of a milk paint  surface is no different than what was found on furniture, walls and floors in country houses in colonial america.  Also milk paint is completely safe, and environmentally friendly!
