Getting Started:
Commissioning a piece of custom furniture is an easy and enjoyable process.
First you can contact us via e-mail or phone to discuss what you have in mind, a whether it is a small end table, a desk for your home or office or a queen size bed and bedroom set. We work from whatever inspires you, whether it is a piece that you see on our website or a picture from your favorite magazine or of that unattainable antique. We also have a large resource library to help with ideas.
From there we come up with a design that works for you, whether it is a sketch or a photograph. Remember size, color and wood type are completely up to you and your needs. We work in the finest hardwoods available today such as walnut, cherry, tiger maple, mahogany, birdseye maple and more. From there, once the design, wood type and finish has been decided upon we will give you a quote. Once we receive a deposit for the piece we can enter the work into our schedule.
The building process begins with scaled drawings of your piece and hardwood selection. We pay close attention to selecting wood that matches in color and grain type to ensure the best overall look in your piece or pieces of furniture In most cases, the wood is consecutively cut from the same log to ensure a nice grain and color match throughout your piece. All of our furniture is built using time tested, traditional methods and joinery, that ensure this piece will still be around generations from now. If your interested in coming by the shop at any point in the process to see your piece of furniture take shape that is more than welcome. If you are not in the immediate area we post photos of the building process of the furniture we build on our current projects page and our facebook page. We have found that most clients enjoy following the building process of their furniture. Either way you prefer, we stay in contact, keeping you informed on the progress and how your piece is coming along. After the entire piece is made and assembled we will send you finishing samples to chose from if a finish has not already been decided upon. The finishing process usually takes 10 days to 3 weeks, this allows for the finish to properly cure before we prepare your furniture for delivery to your home or office. Read past clients experiences on our Testimonial page.
Finishing:
We have a wide range of finishes we use for a variety of different pieces, looks and applications. We work with you to decide and understand what you need from a piece of furniture and what type of protection you would need based on that. We design a finish schedule to achieve a balance between depth, beauty and patina, with protection that meets your needs. We also custom mix our own colors, and will send samples prior to finishing. We believe in combining the qualities in a finish that have both protection and the ability to be easily spot repaired if needed.
There is no such thing as a “bulletproof finish” as some companies claim to have on their furniture. If you are investing in a piece of furniture that will last for generations and become a future heirloom, there are going to be things that happen, “bulletproof” or not. The worst thing that can happen (and we have heard some stories, from both clients and refinishers) is when you do want to get something small repaired on a “bulletproof” finish and realize you can not, and have to refinish the entire piece when it could have been an easy repair.

Pricing:
Prices for pieces vary according to size, type of wood and finish used. Contact us for pricing on a particular piece, whether it is shown on our portfolio or a custom piece you have in mind. We enjoy working closely with our customers to make that custom piece of furniture a reality. Feel free to discuss color, size, or design with us. Stain samples are available upon request. Most of the time the pieces we build are commissioned, but occasionally we have pieces available in our shop. We will mark those pieces “currently available” on the portfolio page.
Payment:
Once the details have been discussed, a 20% or 40% (depending on lead time and project size) deposit is required to ensure the projects place on our calendar and to cover materials. The balance will be due upon completion, prior to delivery (if being shipped). We accept cash, check, paypal, and credit card. There is a small percentage charged for credit card payments that is not included in a quote.
Delivery/Shipping:
We ship nationwide with a fantastic, reputable blanket wrap shipping company that offers us reasonable rates. The completed piece can also be be picked up at our shop. We also offer free delivery within 25 miles. In some cases we will deliver furniture ourselves to other New England states, at a reasonable rate. For smaller items such as end tables we can use a common carrier. Contact us for more information or to get a quote.
Guarantee:
We guarantee our furniture against defects in craftsmanship. We construct our furniture with allowances for normal seasonal wood movement. We use time tested joinery methods on all of the furniture we make. These forms are unmatched in overall strength. If cared for properly, our furniture should last for generations. If an unfortunate problem should arise with the functioning of a piece, contact us and we will take care of repairs. We cannot account for extreme conditions that can sometimes be present in homes. We can discuss problematic areas and things to avoid so you can prevent these situations.
Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have. Also, feel free to visit our shop at any time. We have wood, finish, and stain samples available, and may also have some finished pieces to view. We look forward to hearing from you.
